Stay away from this garbage in fact dont buy anything form Hauppauge. The software allows me to export captured video to an MP4 file which makes it easy to view using various media players, ie Roku, smartphone, tablet, pc, etc. Software is slow to export to Mp4 files, usually taking 5 minutes on a 5GB file but that can be expected when working with large video files. Only word of caution, if the video source has copy protection this device will not allow it to record. You will need to research specific after market HDMI splitters that remove the copy protection data, this applies to Playstation4 and a wide range of consumer playback devices. It doesnt work too often and is fairly complex to troubleshoot because it typically conks out with the recording counter still going but the video preview frozen, so you end up with an absurdly large (100GB) file that only contains 4 minutes of recording. Sometimes it locks up with just the preview running, or with preview disabled. I doubt it is an issue of resources or whatnot (Im running an eight core rig with 24GB RAM) or overheating, just shoddy and careless programming of the user interface. It shouldnt be that complicated to get an otherwise decent piece of hardware to be usable. I still would recommend this for anyone wanting to record from their DVR. Great for preserving sporting events without the commercials and in HD to boot.
